Malshej Ghat is known for several types of flamingoes. The best migratory residents of this place are flamingoes who choose this abundant zone as their nestling ground during monsoon season.

Nature lovers visit this place due to the presence of several flora and fauna which makes this place unique of its kind. The place is also popular amongst hikers, trekkers and naturists.

The birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, “The Shivneri Fort” is quite close by Harishchandragad fort and the ancient temples speak of architectural marvel. The Malshej Falls, Ajoba Dam are amongst other attractions.

Travel Tips

The monsoon months of August and September are a good time to visit Malshej Ghat, with green hills, diverse flora and fauna and exotic flamingoes visiting this area. Another time to visit the place is March, April and October, when the temperature is cool and you can enjoy the sightseeing. Cotton clothes are must during summer time. Keep emergency medicines and a first aid kit along with you. Do not go for trekking on a rainy day.

Getting Around

Walking is the best way to getting around this area. One can take state buses that commute frequently between Kalyan and Ahmednagar. You may also hire private cars for sightseeing.

How To Reach


Mumbai has the major airport, Chhatrapati Shivaji, which is 137 km away from this township. There are regular domestic and international flights available by connecting the place with other major metro cities of India and abroad. From there you may take a taxi, private cars to reach the hilly town and time taken is app. 3-4 hours. Tourists can also reach Malshej Ghat via Pune. One may travel to Pune International airport and from there reach to Malshej Ghat. Time taken would be around 3 hours.


There is no direct train line connecting this area. Kalyan has a railway station which is closest to the place, and is at a distance of 85 km.


There are public and private buses available that connect this place from Mumbai, Panvel or Pune. Mumbai is 140 km away, Pune is around 120 km via NH 50 and the distance can be covered in 3 hours.

Harishchandra peak, PimpalgaonJoga dam, Ajoba hill fort are the attractions available surrounding the region. A beautiful view of the valleys is an attraction, famous for woods and animals such as tigers, leopards, peacocks. Another place is Khireshwar which is close by. Dynamic Waterfalls amidst lush greeneries in this region are a must watch.
